A triathlon is a multiple-sport event involving swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession.

Triathlons cover many distances; from the shorter and faster races to the long endurance challenges:

Short/Sprint distance triathlon: 750m swim, 20km bike and a 5km run.
Standard/Olympic distance triathlon: 1,500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run.
Middle/Half-Ironman distance triathlon: 1,900m swim, 90km bike and a 21.1km run.
Long/Ironman distance triathlon: 3,800m swim, 180km bike and a 42.2km run.

The standard distance was introduced as an Olympic sport at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and has since made its debut in the Commonwealth Games.

There are many places to swim, bike and run in Ghana. Go to your local pool for lessons, ride in your neighbourhood and run at your local track or on quiet roads. For those living in Accra, please find some more specific information below.
